Fundraising for your community or in memory of someone to purchase a Lifesaving Defibrillator is an amazing thing to do.
There are a few things to consider before committing your hard earned donations!!.... Ask yourself and your Defibrillator provider - "Once the new Defibrillator is installed how much is it going to cost to keep it in Service" ..... It's a very important question because there will be costs associated with keeping the unit in a serviceable state and ready in an emergency for years to come. Initial Cost: There are many different types of Defibrillators available to buy, ranging from £600 to over a £1500. A cabinet will also be required, indoor and outdoor cabinets are available and vary in price. Ongoing cost: Ongoing costs can vary from unit to unit, these include replacement Pads and batteries.
The pads will also need to be replaced if the unit is used or the packaging is opened in a false alarm. The replacement of pads could be very costly for you if the unit is used often.
In Wales at time of writing, If the Defibrillator is a Zoll AEDPlus the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust (WAST) will supply the pads and batteries for FREE!!! This could be a huge saving fo0r your community and you will not have to constantly fund-raise to pay for the Pads and Batteries. Most importantly if your Defibrillator is used or the pads have expired then downtime will be kept to a minimum. (e.g Our local Defibrillator has been used 3 times in the last 6 months, they turned out to be false alarms but the pads packaging were opened on each occasion so had to be replaced. Because it is a ZOLL AEDplus defibrillator WAST replaced the pads for FREE!! If the Defibrillator was any other model then the community would have had to raise approx £200 for the cost of those pads, and also the unit would not have been available for use until that money had been raised......) This is why Curiad Calon Lleol - Local Heartbeat will only recommend installing Zoll AEDPlus Defibrillators in Wales as we feel keeping all Defibrillators in a serviceable state after install is priority. Installing the Defibrillator is the easy part, making sure that its is in a serviceable state for years to come is the challenging part. If you need further information on this visit the The Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust website CLICK HERE or get in touch with me - CLICK HERE - I'll be happy to help in anyway I can. Think about the long term cost of installing a Defibrillator, it could save you £100's..... Bryn curiadcalonlleol-local heartbeat (The above is my own opinion based on my knowledge and experiences)
